顺治二年乙酉四月，江都围急。督相史忠烈公知势不可为，集诸将而语之曰：“吾誓与城为殉，然仑皇中不可落于敌人之手以死，谁为我临期成此大节者？”副将军史德威慨然任之。忠烈喜曰：“吾尚未有子，汝当以同姓为吾后。吾上书太夫人，谱汝诸孙中。”
